Just two more years until Hugh Jackman officially says goodbye to his on-screen persona as Wolverine in the character’s final spinoff film due in 2017, but before that Hugh is trying to get in as many Wolverine appearances as possible. And now it appears the ill-tempered mutant might appear alongside another fellow ill-mannered Canadian and Weapon X survivor – Deadpool! Filming for “Deadpool” has been underway for about a month in Toronto and star Ryan Reynolds recently told News Limited that his fingers were crossed for Hugh Jackman making an appearance in the film as Wolverine saying “God I hope so, that would be really nice. I dunno, we’ll see. It seems like he’s open to it, but it’s gonna be more of a scheduling issue than anything else.”
It wouldn’t be the first time Jackman has cameoed as the character – he humorously made a quick appearance in “First Class” and including that appearance has portrayed Wolverine in all “X-Men” and “Wolverine” films. Jackman told MTV UK “[Deadpool and Wolverine] are definitely enemies in the comics, and they always spark off well together, so I’d be open to that idea.” And it would certainly be a welcomed appearance for fans who would prefer Fox actually get the pairing of the two characters and actors right.
A Wolverine appearance certainly wouldn’t be unusual…In the Deadpool comics, cameos from fellow Marvel characters are quite common, from Wolverine to Iron Fist to Spider-Man, but with Fox’s limited playground of characters due to rights issues, the characters to choose from for cameos is slim. But the X-Men world is wide open. Additionally, Deadpool has appeared in the X-Force comics before and with that movie in the works, it’s certainly possible we might get one or two quick character introductions. Perhaps a certain time-traveler named Cable will show up alongside Wade for just a moment or two? Characters like Colossus, Angel Dust, Copycat and more have already been confirmed, so here’s hoping Hugh and his Wolverine can make their schedules work because even just a simple “watch it, bub” would send our nerd hearts into overdrive. Time will tell and we will see how it all plays out when “Deadpool” hits theaters next year on February 12!
