The Native Tongues were a hip-hop collective who consisted of Jungle Brothers, De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, L.O.N.S., Black Sheep, DJ Paul, Monie Love, Queen Latifah, Chi-Ali, and Fu-Schnickens. Evven though they only recorded a handful of songs together (occassonally appearing on each other's albums and a couple of remixes and B-sides), The Native Tongues influence on hip-hop was undeniable, but during the mid-90's tastes in music had shifted. Ganger hardcore rap was popular at the time so De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, and The Jungle Brothers were trying harder to maintain their own sepearate careers because the happy go lucky vibe of The Native Tongues was no longer in. The music had gotten darker, so eventually The Native Tongues slowly disbanded.
Native Tongus Reunion
In an interview with Vibe Magazine, Afrika Baby Bam of The Jungle Brothers cited Pos (De La Soul) and Q-Tip (A Tribe Called Quest) the reason for a riff between Jungle Brother, A Tribe Called Quest, and De La Soul. Apparently Afrika Baby Bam wanted to reunite The Native Tongues and kick off a nationwide tour, but Pos (De La Soul) and Q-Tip (A Tribe Called Quest) weren't interested.
