Black Mass is an upcoming 2015 biographical crime drama film that stars Johnny Depp (Public Enemies, Donnie Brasco), Kevin Bacon (Fox TV Series The Following), Benedict Cumberbatch ( 2014’s The Imitation Game ), Joel Edgerton (2002’s Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones and 2005’s Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith), Sienna Miller (Foxcatcher and American Sniper), and Dakota Johnson (50 Shades of Grey). In 1975, FBI Agent John Connolly (Joel Edgerton) recruited Boston crime boss James Joseph "Whitey" Bulger, Jr. (Johnny Depp) as an informant. Bulger was in a tight spot: provide intelligence to the FBI or return to Federal prison. Bulger's cohort, mobster turned FBI whistleblower Stephen Joseph "The Rifleman" Flemmi (Rory Cochrane) had double-crossed him. As a result, the FBI ignored his crew in exchange for information about the inner workings of rival syndicate, the Patriarca crime family. But this unholy pact, which spiraled out of control, allowed Whitey to sidestep law enforcement, amass power, and become one of the most sadistic and powerful gangsters in South Boston.
