Whether or not Sony continues with plans for a Sinister Six movie to hit theaters in 2016 remains to be seen, but today we’re getting some new details on which characters may appear and which actors Sony has their eyes on. Thanks to ComicBookMovie.com, we’re getting some new details on the direction of Sony’s planned Spidey villain team-up movie, The Sinister Six, that is currently set to arrive in theaters on November 11th, 2016. In recently obtained emails from the studio, it has been revealed that the lineup could include Sandman, Doctor Octopus, Vulture, Venom and Carnage as well as two female characters, Black Cat and Scorpia. It’s revealed that Doctor Octopus would be the leader of the group and it’s noted that he would have quirks in order to keep from being boring as the straight man of the group. Some actors mentioned for the role include Tom Hardy, Sean Penn, Denzel Washington, George Clooney, Daniel Craig and Woody Harrelson. Colin Firth, who will be seen in the upcoming comic book adaptation, Kingsman: The Secret Service, was mentioned as a possibility to play Vulture. For the role of Sandman, who is described as the comic relief of the film, Sony was looking at actors like Danny McBride, Jonah Hill, Chris O’Dowd, Michael Pena, Joel Edgerton, Jason Clarke and Sharlto Copley. For Venom, Channing Tatum was at one point interested in taking on the role, but that would apparently be highly unlikely at this point now that he is set to play Gambit for Fox in a future X-Men movie. Though no actresses were specifically eyed to play Black Cat, names like Emily Blunt and Keri Russell were mentioned as actresses they thought weren’t right for the role. It’s unclear what this means for Felicity Jones, who seemingly was being set up to play Black Cat in this summer’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2. There were more names thrown out as possibilities to play Scorpia, a lesser known assassin who inherits an updated version of Spider-Man villain Scorpion’s suit in the comics. Those actresses mentioned include Emily Blunt, Emilia Clarke, Ruth Wilson, Rose Bryne and Elizabeth Olsen, though it’s mentioned that Olsen would most likely not be an option since she’ll be playing Scarlet Witch in next summer’s Avengers sequel. Though we’ve heard that Sony has been considering a female spinoff movie set in the Spider-Man universe, the email suggests that the film will actually be an all-female team-up movie that could include Black Cat, Scorpia, a female version of Venom, known as She-Venom and possibly even a female version of Carnage played by none other than Emma Stone. In the comics, Carnage at one point take the form of Gwen Stacy, which Stone previously joked about as a way of returning to the series. Turns out, the folks at Sony took it seriously and have, at least at one point, considered it as a possibility. We’ll have to wait and see what ultimately happens with Sony’s Spider-Man franchise and the Sinister Six movie in particular, but what do you think of the characters mentioned and which actors would you like see take on the roles, if it happens?
