This is an audio drama adaptation of Alan Moore's graphic novel The Killing Joke (it depicts The Joker as a failed stand-up comedian who agrees to aid a gang of criminals and is thwarted by the superhero Batman before being horribly deformed; in doing so he is driven insane and attains his supervillain persona) written by English author Alan Moore and originally illustrated by Brian Bolland for DC comics in 1988.
Director Christopher Nolan has mentioned that The Killing Joke served as an influence for the version of the Joker appearing in the 2008 feature film The Dark Knight. Heath Ledger, who played the Joker, stated in an interview that he was given a copy of The Killing Joke as reference for the role
